Yoga Mudras, Types of Yoga Mudras and benefits
Yoga mudras involve postures of hands and fingers and so the other name for yoga mudras is hand yoga. Yoga mudras provide immediate relief to almost all ailments. Mudras work on both body and mind. These postures can be performed easily by sitting in crossed leg position, standing or even lying on the bed. These mudras can be easily performed at the office also.
Fingertips have numerous nerve endings which are connected to various organs of the body. These nerve endings control the action of all organs.
Imbalance in elements of the human body results in diseases. These diseases can be cured by using mudras. The human body is made up of five elements which include fire, air, water, space, earth. Each finger represents an element. Thumb represents fire, the index finger represents air, the middle finger represents space, the ring finger represents earth and the little finger represents water.
All the above particular elements can be brought in to control by contact of fingers with the thumb.

Types of Yoga Mudras:
Gyan Mudra or Chinmudra
Tips of thumb, index finger are joined together and the other three fingers are held together and kept straight,
Benefits of Gyan Mudra:
- This mudra increases memory power.
- It provides relief from restlessness and anger.
- It also cures sleeplessness.
Prana Mudra – Yoga Mudras
The tips of the little finger, ring finger and thumb are joined together and the other two fingers are held straight.
Benefits of Prana Mudra
- This mudra is very beneficial for all diseases.
- This mudra provides life energy to the body.
Vayu Mudra
The index finger is bent towards the base of the thumb and thumb is pressed against the index finger. The other three fingers are held straight.
Benefits of Vayu Mudra
The practice of this mudra cures arthritis, Parkinson disease, gas trouble in the stomach.
Prithvi Mudra
The tip of the thumb and ring finger are joined together

Varuna Mudra – Yoga Mudras
Thumb is placed on the little finger and other three fingers are held straight.

Apaan Mudra – Yoga Mudras
The tip of the thumb, middle finger and ring finger are joined together and the other three fingers are held straight.

- Waste material gets eliminated from the body through eyes, ears, nose by using this mudra.
- Constipation can also be controlled.
Surya Mudra
The tip of the ring finger is positioned on the base of the thumb and thumb is pressed against it.

- Cures problems of indigestion.
- Provides relief from anxiety.
Shunya Mudra
The tip of the middle finger is positioned on the base of the thumb and thumb is pressed against it. The other three fingers are held straight.

This mudra is very effective in curing ear problems.
Linga Mudra
The fingers of both hands are interlocked and thumbs of both hands are raised and held together with straight.

Surabhi Mudra
The little finger, the ring finger is held together and middle finger and index finger are held together.

Shanka Mudra
Get hold of the left thumb in right fist. Now the left index finger and right thumb are kept in contact with each other.

Apan Vayu Mudra
The forefinger is folded in such a way that it touches the base of the thumb. The tips of middle finger, ring finger and thumb are joined together.

Helps in the normalization of blood pressure.

Back Mudra
Thumb, middle finger and little finger are joined together and other two fingers are held straight.

Hakini Mudra
In this mudra fingertips of both hands are held together, look upward and while inhaling the tip of the tongue should be placed on gums. And while exhaling tongue should be brought down.

This mudra helps in improving memory.
Bronchial Mudra
The tip of the little finger is positioned on the base of the thumb, the ring finger is positioned above little finger and the middle finger is joined with top of the thumb. The index fingers should be straight and extended.
Asthma Mudra
The nails of middle fingers of both the hands are pressed against each other and other fingers are held straight.
